What you should know about recovering from a motor vehicle collision

  • Signs of Accident Trauma

If you are experiencing three or more of the described behaviours,
you may need help to deal with the effects of your accident
  • Symptoms of MVA Trauma

Driving anxiety affects your life - your mobility and sense of freedom.

The functional validity of driving anxiety is consistent with the categories on post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as defined by the Association for Advancement
of Behavior Therapy. The three categories are:

    • 1. Re-experiencing (i.e., memories, flashbacks, nightmares);
      2. Avoidance (i.e., situation, time, place, loss, dissociation); and,
      3. Hyperarousal (i.e., physical manifestations, exaggerated startle
      response, anger outbursts).
  • Test Yourself

The Vehicle Anxiety Questionnaire has been designed to help determine
how driving anxieties have affected you.

The self-test covers six areas relating to driving (or passenger) anxiety.
"True' responses may indicate areas for intervention and treatment.
    The 6 areas are:
    • 1. Compensating driving behaviours
    • 2. Passenger anxieties
    • 3. Physical manifestations
    • 4. Limitations to mobility
    • 5. Avoidance behaviours
    • 6. Challenges to personal and relationship stability
